Florida Pro Baseball Overview

Professional baseball in Florida includes the Grapefruit League, Florida State League (FSL), and Florida Complex League (FCL). The Grapefruit League hosts Spring Training across Florida. Coverage includes all Florida-based Major League Baseball (MLB) and Minor League Baseball (MiLB) teams.

Florida plays a major role in professional baseball development. Each spring, the Grapefruit League brings 15 MLB clubs to Florida for Spring Training. Fans enjoy access to practices, workouts, and exhibition games. After Spring Training ends, MLB and MiLB regular seasons begin.

Spring Training opens the baseball calendar in February and March. The MLB regular season runs from late March through September. Postseason games typically take place during October. Florida’s Triple-A, Double-A, and Single-A teams play regular seasons from April through mid-September. The rookie-level Florida Complex League follows a separate schedule, running from early May through late July before its postseason.

The Grapefruit League has 15 teams, the FSL features 10 Single-A clubs, and the FCL includes 15 rookie-level teams. During the regular season, Florida is home to the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays. Florida’s upper-level affiliates include the Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos.
