Grapefruit League Overview
Explore Grapefruit League teams, schedules, ballpark maps, and official Major League Baseball (MLB) resources. Each spring, Florida hosts MLB Spring Training games across the state.
The league includes 15 MLB teams, with eight American League clubs and seven National League clubs. MLB players and Minor League Baseball (MiLB) prospects participate in workouts and exhibition games.
Spring Training ballparks stretch across Florida, giving fans access to games on both coasts. On Florida’s Atlantic Coast, teams play in Jupiter, Port St. Lucie, and West Palm Beach. Along the Gulf Coast, teams play in Bradenton, Clearwater, Dunedin, North Port, Sarasota, and Tampa. Southwest Florida hosts teams in Fort Myers and Port Charlotte. Lakeland hosts an inland team between Tampa and Orlando.
Spring Training begins with pitchers and catchers reporting in mid-February. Full-squad workouts and exhibition games follow soon afterward. Spring Training rosters are larger than regular season rosters. Larger rosters give prospects more opportunities to compete for roster spots. The schedule runs from late February through late March.
The Cactus League serves as Major League Baseball’s other Spring Training circuit. Arizona hosts the remaining 15 MLB teams in and around the Phoenix metropolitan area. Like Florida, the league features Spring Training workouts and exhibition games for MLB players and MiLB prospects. Together, the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues prepare all 30 MLB teams for the regular season.
