Tampa Bay Rays – MLB

The Tampa Bay Rays are one of two Major League Baseball (MLB) teams based in Florida. They compete in the American League East during the regular season. This page features photos and a map of Tropicana Field, links to official team resources, and St. Petersburg weather information.

The stadium opened in 1998 and has served as the team’s home since its inaugural season. It remains Major League Baseball’s only fixed-dome venue.

The distinctive sloped roof is a surviving example of the multi-purpose stadium era. Located in downtown St. Petersburg, just blocks from the waterfront and about 10 miles from St. Pete Beach, the ballpark serves fans across the Tampa Bay region.

On October 9, 2024, winds exceeding 100 mph damaged the roof’s membrane, causing extensive interior water damage. The Rays played the 2025 season at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa while repairs were underway. The renovated stadium reopened for the 2026 season, with the home opener scheduled for April 6.

For Spring Training, the Tampa Bay Rays use Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, Florida. Charlotte Sports Park is about 80 miles south of Tropicana Field.

Minor League Affiliate in Florida

Beyond the MLB club and Spring Training operations, the Tampa Bay Rays have one minor league team in Florida. The FCL Rays compete in the rookie-level Florida Complex League (FCL).
