New Tampa Bay Rays Ballpark

New Tampa Bay Rays Ballpark

Florida Pro Baseball follows the Tampa Bay Rays, an MLB team in the American League East division.

On July 30, 2024, the Pinellas County Commission approved a new ballpark on the Tropicana Field site. This 86-acre project will be in the Historic Gas Plant District.

Assuming final approval of funding is approved, downtown St. Petersburg will begin construction of a new Rays stadium, designed by the Rays and Populous. The ballpark will have a modern three-deck layout, approximately 30,000 fixed seats, and a total capacity of 33,000-34,000. It will use artificial turf like Tropicana Field and have a tiered roof with varied heights.

The Rays’ news release highlights the ballpark’s intimacy, minimizing the distance between seats and the field for excellent views from all seats. While luxury suites will be few, various premium options will be available.

The design reflects the Gas Plant neighborhood’s bungalow-style houses, with a sloping roof and 360-degree field views from all concourses. Second Avenue S will be the gameday street, leading to retail, restaurants, and an entertainment district with a museum and concert venue, ensuring year-round vibrancy.

Although the stadium is the only indoor major league baseball venue, it will offer an outdoor feel. The main entrance will lead to a concourse overlooking the lower bowl. Glass panels near the roof will provide natural light and ventilation, and some panels will adjust based on the weather, blending indoor and outdoor experiences.
