Jackie Robinson Ballpark Update
Florida Pro Baseball follows Florida State League (FSL) teams, including the Daytona Tortugas.
The Daytona Tortugas have officially signed a new lease agreement with the City of Daytona Beach. This agreement ensures that the Tortugas will remain at Jackie Robinson Ballpark for the next two decades. The lease also includes the possibility of an additional ten-year extension.
The historic ballpark, which opened on June 4, 1914, is the oldest still in use in Minor League Baseball. In 1989, the stadium was renamed in honor of Jackie Robinson, who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball. A statue was also installed outside the Orange Avenue Gate to commemorate Robinson’s achievement of playing his first professional game there for the Daytona Beach Islanders in 1946.
Furthermore, under the terms of the agreement, ongoing enhancements are in progress. These improvements aim to meet the standards set by Major League Baseball (MLB) for all minor league teams. Planned upgrades for the 2024 season include new LED field lights, a new batter’s eye in center, and the replacement of the foul poles.
The Daytona Tortugas are a Minor League Baseball (MiLB) team that competes in the Single-A Florida State League (FSL). Their MLB affiliation is with the Cincinnati Reds.
